The Dave Matthews Band (DMB) is a American Rock, jam, soul band formed in the Charlottesville in 1991. Founding members include singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and drummer Carter Beauford.
The band’s first in-studio demo was recorded in February or March 1991, and consisted of “The Song That Jane Likes,” “Recently,” and “Tripping Billies” prior to Tinsley joining as a full-time bandmember. Tinsley only performed on “Tripping Billies.” In January 1996, Dave Matthews Band received its first GRAMMY nominations, with “What Would You Say” up for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Music Video, Short Form.
