Barbie The Movie premiered in July 2023, and has grossed $1.446 billion as the highest-grossing film of 2023. It has been named as one of the Top 10 films of 2023 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute, and received several awards and recognition from various organizations. Its soundtrack was also praised, bagging 11 Grammy nominations. Now, the film in its full glory is heading back to the big screen, with a twist! The new immersive experience will feature the Barbie Land Sinfonietta, ed by Orchestrator and Executive Producer Macy Schmidt, featuring all-female and majority women-of-color musicians. Schmidt is also a tony Award-winning producer, the first woman of color orchestrator in Broadway's history. You'll surely be dancing the night away as these world-class musicians elevate the music of Barbie. Get ready to dance like a queen as "Speed Drive" by Charlie XCX, "Pink" by Lizzo, "Journey to the Real World" by Tame Impala, "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa, "What Was I Made For" by Billie Eilish, and many more hits come to life.
The "one-of-a-kind immersive experience" will also offer limited-edition official merchandise up for grabs. Attendees also have picture-perfect opportunities as the venue gets splashed pink!
"Audiences of all ages flocked to theaters last summer to celebrate the joy of the Barbie movie together," Josh Silverman of Mattel said. "Now fans have the opportunity to further celebrate Barbie with an unforgettable live musical experience, led by an incredibly talented all-women orchestra."
It's a celebration of Barbie impact to women around the globe. Inspiring generations of young girls to dream big and celebrate their best selves, the film became well-known for its message about feminism and female empowerment, recognizing each person's unique purpose.
The blockbuster film scored over 460 nominations from various organizations, including eight from the Academy Awards and 11 from the Grammy Awards. It won three Grammys - Song of the Year, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
"Music lends so much heart and excitement to the Barbie film; between the stunning and clever orchestral score and the upbeat iconic pop soundtrack, music is carrying us through the story," Schmidt shared in a statement.
